Rain Water as Water Supply / Rain Foundation

Retour

In rural areas of Mali the majority of people are dependant on water sources of unreliable quality. Adequate purifying mechanisms are usually absent and too costly to purchase. In addition, in many areas groundwater levels are falling, making extracation too expensive or unfeasible. Poor water quality and inadequate access causes serious health problems.

In Mali, an average rainfall of 500 millimeters a year is sufficient for rainwater harvesting to provide a reliable source of clean drinking water for vulnerable communities to bridge the dry periods of the year.

The program aims to increase access to safe drinking water for vulnerable communities of the Kayes-Yélimané, Kouliloro-Bamako et Dogon Region during the dry period.

111 Rainwater harvesting storages will be constructed in 17 villages.
The project will also establish and strengthen local capacity, and contribute to an understanding and wider adoption of Rain Water Harvesting within Mali.
