Promotion of sustainable agricultural production systems / SOS Sahel
The project plans to renew the strips of casuarinas planted to protect the vegetable cropping basins from sand silting, and to restore the forestry potential of the Niayes area (creation of tree nurseries, production of plants, re-planting of wooded areas). Furthermore, operations to combat the deterioration of the land and the over-exploitation of the water table will be conducted (quickset hedges, irrigation water-saving systems, etc. The operators will also receive support to diversify their production, and training in integrated natural resource management and healthy production methods (organic fertilizers, compost, etc.).
Lastly, activities will be conducted to improve hygiene conditions (awareness raising, removal of household waste, latrines, etc.) and reinforce the organizational and management capacities of the groups.
